Lives and works in Paris. Works in Poush (Manifesto). Former student of École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Paris-Cergy (2014).
I create with space.
Playing with the distances that separate the works from the visitors of the exhibition context allows me to influence their relationships. In this way, my installations influence the experience of a place.
My sculptural practice unfolds in space, often on large scales. It embraces visitors while remaining silent. It is a practice in which abstraction and sobriety predominate. These choices highlight the specificities of a material or a process that remain at the origin of the forms created.
I invest certain craft techniques because they encourage an acute awareness of the body in its engagement with the material. This approach pushes me to develop a form of “empathy” with the material, I then let its logic take precedence over the predefined form as I go against its characteristics.
When I mix craft and industrialized materials, it is with the aim of making feel the charge inherent in each one. The colors present are those of the materials used.
When I manipulate a material, I wonder about its path before it arrived in my hands. This allows me to root it in a context: where it comes from, its formation process, who benefited from it in another environment… History charges it with symbols and humans refine techniques around it. I seize these elements, not always following them to the letter and moving them from context. These deviations allow me to combine several opposites and to go beyond stereotypes.
The integration of ancestral techniques to a minimal and modernist plastic language allows me to question our relationship to time, to emotion, the place of ornamentation and that of digital tools.
